"You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.

You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism."
                                                                                                                                                                 Erma Bombeck

On July 4th, 1776 the Second Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence.

When John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and other founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, they did not sign some empty philosophical statement, they signed their death warrants. This action displayed their dedication to the cause of American independence and was the ultimate disloyalty to King George the Third. Until the Declaration of Independence, Washington, Jefferson, Adams and the others only disagreed with Parliament, not the Crown. This document is important because it marks the revolutionaries' acknowledgment that the corruption of the English government was not contained within the Parliament, but extended all the way up to the King; it marked the point of no return: either the revolutionaries were going to gain their independence from England and create a new country, or they were going to lose the war to the best army in the world, forfeit everything they owned, ruin their families, be charged with High Treason, and be hung or drawn and quartered.

The Declaration laid out the values on which this country would be based: that every person had certain inherent rights including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. 241 years later our system of government still exists.

Those brave 56 men sacrificed everything to revolt against the tyranny of England. Over half of them didn't survive the war or lost their families as a result of signing the Declaration. So fly the American Flag, eat some apple pie, and watch some fireworks. Just remember why we celebrate on this day...

GUN LAWS

Peruta vs California

The Supreme court on Monday June 26th, rejected a challenge out of California regarding the right to carry guns outside their homes, leaving in place a San Diego sheriff's strict limits on issuing permits for concealed weapons.

But Thomas, in a dissent joined by Gorsuch, countered that the case raises "important questions" – and warned that Second Amendment disputes aren't getting the attention they deserve from the Supreme Court.

The case in question involved a San Diego man who said state and county policies requiring "good cause" -- a specific reason or justifiable need to legally carry a concealed weapon -- were too restrictive. A federal appeals court had ruled for the state, and now those restrictions will stay in place

Binderup vs Sessions

The nation's high court on Monday let stand a ruling against the government in the combined cases of two men blocked from gun possession after run-ins that resulted in convictions for non-serious crimes.

The Gun Control Act of 1968, codified at 18 U.S.C. § 922 states that anyone that is under indictment for, or has been convicted in any court of, a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The decision to not hear the case lets a 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Pennsylvania ruling stand in which the court ruled 8-7, siding with Binerup and Suarez. In the end, that panel cited the relatively minor sentences passed on the two men as the reason to disregard their crimes as being serious enough to void their gun rights.

GUN OF THE MONTH

Wilson Combat Stealth .45acp

(Manufactured in 1999/Factory Refurbished 2017)

Description-

Executives, professionals in all walks of life, and others who carry daily asked for our legendary reliability, fit, and finish in a package even smaller than our Professional series-– with the excellent recovery characteristics and accuracy offered by our innovative heavy-cone barrel. The S.D.S. (Stealth Defense System) is the answer we provided. It includes the best of several of our models, enhanced with a 4 1/16" version of the hand-fit, heavy-flanged cone match-grade barrel pioneered on our Tactical Elite, and a frame shortened by ½" with 7-round capacity. The slide length is reduced by a full inch from a standard-length 1911, giving you a speed advantage in target acquisition with the shorter sighting plane. The shorter frame S.D.S. with the accompanying short slide gives you the maximum concealability available with outstanding accuracy and successive shot recovery. Many shooters find the S.D.S's near perfect balance and controllability exceeds many pistols with 5" barrels.
