Finally, our community has lost a really good gentleman last week
with the passing of Dr. Gayle Hopkins.

He and I were on the University of Arizona Track team together for a short time.  He was a long jumper and a high jumper while I was a shot putter.  He excelled in his events and Won the NCAA title in 1964 for the high jump and went on to participate in the 1964 olympics in the long jump.

He ended up working at the U of A in the athletic department and was the only person I knew at that institution when I returned to Arizona in 1998.

Happy Trails.
